Therapeutic
horseback riding combines physical, occupational and
speech therapy with the fun of riding horses but note
that it does not replace other traditional therapies but
can be part of the total therapy program. The benefits
of this horseback riding program, epically for children
with special needs, are derived from using the movements
of the horse to work muscles of the rider to achieve
their therapeutic goals. The rhythmical motion of the
horse’s movements works the rider’s muscles. A horse
gait is almost identical to a human gait in that the motion
simulates the normal sensory-motor input of walking. |
